Explore the Christian faith
At some point in their lives many people find they want to investigate or revisit the basic truths of the Christian faith. In order to help people do this we run 8 – 10 week long courses, around once a year, using some materials from the Alpha course.
Each session on the course consists of 3 parts. The first part is an informal meal giving folks a chance to get to know one another. After the meal a video is shown addressing a question of the Christian faith. Subjects include “Who is Jesus?”, “Why did He die?”, “How can I be sure of my faith?”, “What about prayer?”, “What about the bible?”, “Who is the Holy Spirit?” “Does God guide us today?”. Following the video are discussion groups of between 6 and 12 people. These groups are an opportunity for course participants to put forward their points of view about what was said on the video and discover where they and others in their group stand on these issues. There is no onus on people to talk in the groups and some people find it most helpful just to listen. (Please note that you will not be asked to read aloud, pray aloud or sing.)
These courses are usually popular and of course, are open to all whether you are examining the Christian faith for the first time, bringing a friend or are a church member refreshing yourself on the basics.

As well as the Alpha Course there are a number of other ways to begin investigating the Christian faith.
*The website www.christianityexplored.org provides a helpful outline of what Christianity is all about and tackles some of the questions that many people ask – such as What about suffering? and Did Jesus really rise from the dead?
*Take a read through part of the Bible (read online at Bible Gateway or purchase one online here – try a modern translation such as a CEV or NIV translation if you’re not sure what to look for). We believe the Bible is God’s word to us and as such, is relevant to our lives although admittedly sometimes hard to understand without help! Choose one of the sections in the middle called Matthew, Mark, Luke or John to get started. Our faith centres round Jesus Christ and His claims.
*”Christianity Explored” by Rico Tice and George Cooper is a helpful paperback explaining the Christian faith, available on Amazon at £4.99.
